Light Playing
Missed Connections in Flagstaff
I am the blue fish darting in the shallows,
Light playing on powdery wings.
I am the blooming meadow, the violet seas.
I am the silver slice
of a crescent moon, the delicate shell,
the fragile light
that has traveled from the ocean
to grace the turquoise
watercolored sky.

Her Two Cents from the Missed Connections Chief Bottle-Finder:
Flagstaff might be more aligned with desert than coastline, but our poet illustrates the many different faces shown by the ocean. Whether it’s turquoise, grey, deep blue, or nearly black, the emotional connection we have to the sea is not unlike what we have to other living creatures. We see, we interpret, and we respond. Ashley Rose’s image brings to mind the beaches near Halifax, Nova Scotia – signs of wildlife abound while traces of human life recede.
